New Candy Buffet

April 5, 2012

The best ideas come were you least expect them. At our last Spa party, Claudia, the twins mom suggested an antique chest for the serving of the sweet buffet. “Instead of fabric, you can use it both as a perfect backdrop for pictures and a buffet”, she suggested.

Image

I could not get the idea off my mind. So I persuaded my loving husband to get me one. We worked hard on it antiqued it, but the results were fantastic!

Depending on the theme, we place the sweets in jars, trays and mix it with whimsical items. For the Spa party, flower balls in pink and lime green and brazilian brigadeiros on a tub. How cute is that?

The sweets:

Diva lolipops, pop corn flowers, white chocolate strawberries and coconut and oreo filled little balls.

The Racing Racers host 1st birthday party

This is the very first party that we hosted. The theme was Racing Racers….

Super Chic Spa Party

April 2, 2012

The use of the French très chic (very chic) by an english speaker would generally mean elegant, beautiful,  and it is specially associated with stylishness.

So what else could these two beautiful twins have for their birthday party? The answer:   A très chic spa party,   with Hippojoy.

Introducing Marina & Gabriella, two sparkly and adorable twins…. One is totally into pink, the other one would rather have a calm setting and loves lime-green. Perfect combination…voila!

This is a party were a photographer is a must. Marina and Gabriella were fortunate to have deLima photography at their party. Thank you for allowing us to use your beautiful and professional pics, great work.

The setting was in pink, fucsia and lime green. We had stations so the girls would be pampered every step of the way.

They were greeted with a sparkly beverage by Miss Roxanne, who flew directly from France with her associate Maggie. They own a luxurious Spa in France you see, the Spa were Monsieur Beaveerrr and his girl friend, beautiful Selena go for some beauty rest. Madamme Roxanne, has a heavy frenchy accent but is great to be around with.  She has great beauty tips for every girl…

A little toast for the Birthday girl were they shared their wishes for them and said beautiful things about the twins.  We taught the girls the importance of walking with confidence, inner beauty and how a happy smile can conquer a lot! I am not sure if it was what we have told them or the fun they were having but smiles were everywhere.

The girls had beauty masks, a relaxing massage, make up and manicures.

I will post more pictures and talk a little bit more about menu and other great ideas for the Spa theme.

Choo Choooooo!

September 20, 2010

Choo Chooo!  Yes, I think I can,  Yes, I can… Remember the train from Dumbo who was trying to climb  up a hill and kept telling himself,  I think I can, I think I can?

With a bunch of parties to work on and a couple of bridals in the way… We feel like the Choo Choo right now!

Thomas the train, The Little Train that Could, and many others are  favorites  for boys ages 1 and up!

This centerpieces are for Alex and his third birthday.

I love the idea that they are all different!  Some are for favors and some will have helium balloons. Which one is your favorite?

Thankyou Silvia for such beautiful artwork!

Twilight Saga Parties

July 21, 2010

Ahhhhh! The Twilight Saga….

Once you see the movie or read the first book, you are hooked! That is why to plan a Twilight Saga Party, I have digged, looked, read and tried  to find for you ideas from every single Twilight book. I will not list ideas in order so you can mix and match as you wish. The books by Stephanie Meyer are:  New Moon,  Eclipse,  Breaking Dawn and Midnight Sun. Midnight Sun is written in Edwards point of view but Stephanie Meyer is not finishing it after someone leaked it all over the internet.

Ok, so in Twilight, the setting is in that tiny town called “Forks”, to re-create that rainy ambiance, I have found these black and white posters which I will hang  from the ceiling with black umbrellas and use red airtube to simulate that red silk ribbon that we like so much.

There is something about the mood of a party that gives the guest that wow effect and makes it different, this will be our WOW factor! Can you imagine the repetition of this heart shaped black umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and then the red tube weaving it’s way through them. We will also have cold ice machines to create some fog…

This huge poster will be hanging from a backwall near the entrance and bellow an oval shaped table with an antique style book for guests to sign in.

This is one of our choices for a Twilight Sweet Sixteen. For this party, red, black and black and white pictures is the way to go!

Here is our other choice for a more intimate Twilight gathering for up to 50 guests…

Here, red is an accent color, you can also put red apple candles for a romantic feel or red apple place settings with the name of each guest.

Giant chess pieces was our first choice to hang from the ceiling, but when we saw the movie, we went for the heart umbrellas in black instead, but I wanted to share the pic because they would look cute, don’t you think. We will use the checkerboard on the dance floor and I am pushing one of this giant pieces on to one side of the dance floor…

We will have a whimsical black and white cake for this sweet sixteen but I found this cute idea using plastic forks over cupcakes and red sprinkles that image blood spatter and messages from the book. Very creative, they are from Maggies Dinner Dates.

This cake version is by Sweet Austin. I absolutely love how they have incorporated every detail on the cover of the  book “Twilight New Moon Eclipse”.

For beverages, blood of course! each bottle has a type A or type B, Type O. Any red beverage will do.  On the bar station you can also name drinks like Cold Edward, New Moons, bloody Mary’s can still preserve their name, or why not include True Bloods?

Guests can sink their fangs into a bottle of Tru Blood, a delicious blood orange carbonated drink featured on the HBO show and inspired by Bill’s favorite synthetic blood nourishment beverage. Tart and slightly sweet, Tru Blood pours like a regular soda but appears stormy and mysterious when poured into a glass. Bottoms up – and vampires, remember to drink responsibly!

We will also have a picture opportunity for guests. This time one of the dangerous but charming vampire so all the Bellas at the party can take a souvenir picture. Cut outs are available also for Jacob or Bella.

Now you can also be prepared for an amazing Sweet Sixteen Dance idea: Birthday girl will be wearing a Red Velvet dress with an amazingly long chiffon Red Tail and of course vampire teeth. The other girls will be using Black outfits like this picture that was our inspiration. The choreography is being prepared by a professional and it will blow the guests away.

The Song? Get outta your mind by Lil John. Now the song will have a slight Twilight theme introduction. Sweet!

Check out these cool moves and Choreography by Sir Charles and performed by BeastMode.

Planning a World Cup Final Playoff Party

July 10, 2010

And its a Goooaaal!! or in Spanish, la mete y es un Goooooooooool!!!

For the past month the world has been focused on the 2010 World Cup Tournament in South Africa. It is a great opportunity for friends to gather together and watch the game. Besides the excitement of the game itself it has been fun to watch fans from all over the world supporting their favorite team and dressed up so creatively and fun!

South Africans welcomed football/soccer fans to their country to the first World Cup to be held on the continent and the sound of the vuvuzela horns has sure become a trademark of this 2010 event.  On Sunday , the final game is here and it will be played between Spain and the Netherlands.

No matter what team you will cheer for, this is a great time to have a fun with family, friends, and have a “World Cup Final Playoff Party” so here I post some ideas for you to prepare for Sunday!

Ask your friends to come dressed up ready to cheer, it is really fun to have guys from opposite teams!  Make a huge poster with rules against violence between both sides, make it funny and personalize it with the name of some of your guests.

For example,

“Ole – allowed, bull hats too,

Jose keep it up and do not boo!”

Fun Hats that cheer for Holland, for Spain you can have “torero fighter” , bull hats or fun red and yellow wigs like the ones shown above!

For decorations, print out flags of both teams and hang them around your home! Have a professional face painter  make creative and different works of art. Check out this spanish fan…

If you are planning to have this party at home, because you want it to be a family gathering, make sure you have activities for adults and children alike. It is a great opportunity to teach children  not only about the game but about where it is held also. Ask your friends to come in early and before the party starts, make some fun entertaining games for children and explain that this will be their time, and when the game begins, they can either watch or play with the games you have chosen. If the kids are aware of the rules, it is more likely  they will not interrupt.

Some activities for the children: have costumes, bandanas, whistles, vuvuzelas, hats and wigs so they can get dressed to cheer for their favorite team, (it doesn’t matter if they have already been disqualified), have different pictures of the countries participating and also explain about the traditions from South Africa, it is amazing how much they learn with play!

Lets talk Food! Finger food is perfect for this celebration. Have a variety of dips and food representing both sides. Spanish tapas and Hollandese hors d’oeuvres are a wonderful option. Hams and cheeses and mini servings of paella, chorizo (spanish sausage) and of course cold beer or wine. Put mini flags symbolizing where the food is from and do not forget to decorate the table. Take a look at this cute clog!

And for dessert, I want to share this great idea that was sent to me by my dear friend Jaime, who is already preparing for his celebration of the grand finale of the World Cup.  If you are familiarized with the soccer frenzy you have probably heard of Paul the octopus. This octopus has become a World Cup phenomenon after correctly predicting the winners of all six Germany’s matches. He predicts it by grabbing an oyster from a crystal box. He has picked an oyster from the box with the Spanish flag so he thinks they will beat the Netherlands in Sunday’s final in Johannesburg, South Africa. We shall see. But going back to the dessert… It is a ball of chocolate ice cream and the octopus is sculpted in fondant. No one will be mad at this Paul…he is toooo cute!

Lego Racer Party

June 25, 2010

Automobile racing….  Their passion

Speed…….. their creed

Dixie and Prixie  their names

Ladies and gentleman, Boys and Girls please give a warm welcome to the Racey Racers….

These two characters are Car Racers and they host a fun game show that involves Team Effort! Team Effort means that you have to work together with your friends in order to achieve a common goal! I just love the faces of our happy kids when we explain to them what Team Effort means and when asked about their goals in life…For many six year olds their goal in life is to win the Racey Racers game show that day. Good to live in the moment, the racers explain about challenges and how it is good to have goals at school and in life too!

Decoration, Backdrop and setup can be included. For this party, table cloths were solid red, blue and yellow and with a black and white checkers small cover on top.

Plates were in solid colors like the table cloths. Centerpieces were red tin pales with balloons, tissue paper and candy canes. The goodie boxes were stackable and had lego toy stickers and assorted candy.

The kids are divided into two teams:  Red Team and Blue Team. Some of the challenges involved obstacle racing, Lego Tower building, line dancing,  funky car races with our specially designed cars, “ballooney kids”,  Huge costumes that are filled by balloons, and, of course,  a Nascar Style celebration with foam and bubbles!

Roll paper mommies!  READY, STEADY, GO….GO, GO, GO!!!!

Mad Scientist Party

June 24, 2010

We are working hard on developing our Mad Scientinst Birthday Party

Science projects are always fun. On the video, my children learning about eruptions and volcano’s and the oldest is assisting to a Science Camp which has been tons of fun so I thought to myself… What if we have a nice Dr. / teacher help us at our parties, a funny assistant can join us too! And so Dr. Funzo was created.

Super cute cupcakes. This creative mom shares some ideas on how to create these cupcakes which can substitute cake. You can check more pictures at livinglocurto.com

Another option is an erupting volcano cake. Check this one out:

Here is a preview of the Fun Activities we can do at this party:

All your comments are highly appreciated!

Dr. funzo sure knows how to make science fun.

Have her at your next party or event. These are some of the activities you can choose from:

1.  Volcano explosion. Kids will watch at awe while Dr. Funzo explains how eruptions occur and then watch one really explosive one right there before their own eyes.

2.  Color changing energy Beads. The kids will each create a bracelet using color changing beads. The experiment teaches kids about ultraviolet radiation and the care that needs to be taken to prevent the damage it may cause. Ultraviolet (UV) light is the invisible radiation that will give you a sunburn and injure your eyes if you’re not careful. It really convinces them that sunglasses and sunscreens are a must!

3.  ALIEN WORMS. Let them explore the science of building polymers by cross-linking long chains of molecules. The process of making Instant Worms is faster and easier than the classic Slime recipe and it happens the very second the two liquids mix. Truly amazing!

4.  SUPER GEYSER CABIN.  We have a specially designed cabin which can fit up to six kids inside who will experience a super geyser explosion. Using the same volcano principle, kids go inside this gigantic cabin, wear safety goggles and a cape. This is tons of fun!!

5.   OOOBLECK. Who is Dr. Seuss? Could he have been ahead of his time when he spoke about Oobleck? You will make your own oobleck today.

6.  LAVA LAMP. How do they work. Make your own with Dr. Funzo.

Turning One! most popular party themes…

June 23, 2010

Some say a first birthday party is really for parents and their guests and that your baby won’t even remember this party, and may even be overwhelmed by it. I agree with this but only partially because he/she will get to see the pictures later on in his or her life and even at one year old he and his guests can have fun. Nevertheless, there are some considerations you must have whether you’re planning an intimate gathering of friends and family or an all-out bash.

  • Your 1-year-old may be fearful of strangers, and strange or new places. Despite liking other babies, she won’t understand how to play with them yet. She will enjoy individual attention most of the time.
  • To avoid an overstimulated child, take small intimate breaks with him or her. It is definitely ok if the baby wants to be asleep for his/her party most of the time.
  • Entertain other young guests by having a set of activities age appropriate and that go with the theme of your party.  Character Hosts are wonderful for this because they make fun games for a large crowd of well-wishers who can overstimulate your child and you need your hands and time free for your 1-year-old.
  • Set a time, preferably when your child feels fresh to take pictures with the cake and guests. Do not push picture opportunity or singing happy birthday on a schedule, You can definitely alter the order at a 1-year-old party.

  • Let the character/host entertain the guests so you can give your child plently of time. Remember he/she is used to your undiluted attention and he might never have seen sooooo many people together at once.
  • Time the event around the baby’s naptime or when he or she is more alert.
  • If your baby is a social butterfly, then a big bash could be a great way to celebrate. For baby’s who cling to mom, dad, and caregivers, limit the guest list to the baby’s favorites or those with whom he or she is most familiar.

  • Consider where your baby typically has the best time. Most parents opt for a home party if space allows for it.
  • Take lots of pictures! Practice with the camera, if necessary, to make sure that you are comfortable with exposures, lighting for the time of your party, technical details, or fun angles that will take your video and photographs to a pro level.
