New Candy Buffet

April 5, 2012

The best ideas come were you least expect them. At our last Spa party, Claudia, the twins mom suggested an antique chest for the serving of the sweet buffet. “Instead of fabric, you can use it both as a perfect backdrop for pictures and a buffet”, she suggested.

I could not get the idea off my mind. So I persuaded my loving husband to get me one. We worked hard on it antiqued it, but the results were fantastic!

Depending on the theme, we place the sweets in jars, trays and mix it with whimsical items. For the Spa party, flower balls in pink and lime green and brazilian brigadeiros on a tub. How cute is that?

The sweets:

Diva lolipops, pop corn flowers, white chocolate strawberries and coconut and oreo filled little balls.

Mulan, Chinese Tea Party

March 29, 2012

When asked about decoration, I say let’s transport the children to a different era, let them submerge in new experiences. This is the best scenario for a Mulan Party. Birthday parties can also be learning experiences. In this case, about the chinese culture.

Check out this beautiful Mulan setting…Isn’t it inviting??

The Mulan images are by original artists:  play patterns.net.

I love how a garden setting can be transformed for this party. Specially if you are having live entertainment outdoors.

Now, you can also acquire a gorgeus look just by hanging low chinese lanterns everywhere. Like these:

Did I say the wow factor can be the entertainment? It can also be a cultural-learning and joyful experience. Children are already bored of traditional entertainment… they want more. This is definitely different. I bet your guests will talk about this party for a very long time….

The girl in the picture, teaches new Tae Kwon Do moves to the girls. She was the inspiration for the Disney character Mulan. “For real?” shouts out one of the girls, “I want to be like her”.

And the grand finale, out comes a chinese dragon doing the Lion dance, celebration of Chinese New Year.

Winter Wonderland party

March 29, 2012

I got a call from a mom wanting to celebrate Winter in the nice and Summery Florida….

What a better place to do it than in ….

Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf.

What a great idea! Now, it is also a good idea, to have a planner help you organize the space. In a first come, first serve situation, Hippojoy came in first. I must say that the manager and crew of this miniature golf were fabulous and were comfortable with us asking them to do new things for us. They even interacted using our children karaoke!

And we decorated the children’s table….

Everything is white and blue like in winter, the summer part was set by the bright sun and tree shade.

Icicles and snowmen and a little bling here and there…

Our craft was a yetti monster found in very cold places, using the children’s hand. I didn’t expect it to be such a hit, but even some children that came in late, would not leave with their own hand print/yetti monster!

Time for some golf!!  The Winter Summerland Miniature Golf  is located near the entrance to Blizzard Beach and is themed as Santa’s permanent off-season retreat. The elf-sized course is divided into two 18-hole experiences. One course carries the snow-clad Florida look reminiscent of Blizzard Beach, and the other has a more tropical holiday theme, with ornaments hanging from palm trees.

Picture time!!!! Everybody smile!

Time for karaoke. These 4-6 year olds sang and were very creative at telling jokes.

Then we had more games. You have to consider the age group when having your party at any mini-golf.  Some tips to consider:

* If the children are small, parents must accompany each child.

* Divide the party in groups of children and have a variety of activities while you wait for all the guests.

* Consider having a person to chaperone each group.

Happy Birthday Zak, and, thank you for letting us be a part of your celebration!

Phineas and Ferb… and Perry the Platypus Party

August 31, 2010

I know what we are going to do today…..

Let’s celebrate Phineas and Ferb style!! With creativity.

Twists for this party?   Plenty!

We have had boys telling us they want a Perry the Platypus Party and girls saying they want a Candance  celebration, based on the episode squirrel in my pants, even a boy wanting a Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s schemes celebration! There is no limit to what we can do for this party and we strongly suggest you bring your birthday child to the consultation process because children, most of the time can tell us by themselves what would be a hit at their party.  Mom and dads go for the general theme so here are some great ideas, styles, cakes and fun for a Birthday party based on any or every character of this fabulous cartoon you can see in Disney Channel.

The Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s Scheme and Invention Party theme is great.  And so is the story that gave life to our party theme.

In comes this mom to the consultation almost apologizing for bringing in his six year old (who happened to be the birthday boy). Sebastian was vivacious and could not stop moving with excitement;  he wanted to see the centerpieces we were working on, he asked tons of questions, he wanted to know why I was making a big tea cup with flowers when tea cups are for drinking milk, or tea or coffee…

“Is that your new invention?”  he asked me.

“Yes” , I replied proudly. It is my new invention.”

“So you are like Dr. Doofenshmirtz too? ” he asked.  “I like Dr. Doofenshmirtz, but no one understands him”,  he said in a soft voice.

Meanwhile, his mom spoke to my business partner,  Nancy,  about a Phineas and Ferb cake…..

“Wait a minute!”  I interrupted,  “I know what we are going to do this time…. A Doofenshmirtz’s scheme and invention session!”

So we decided that the character that should visit Sebastian’s party would be an old friend of Doofenshmirtz’s, Dr. Funzo and he would help the children create a gigantic Box-Robot for themselves. We would have a game with the children and their robot costumes, create our own scheme. How much fun, this craft project really works!  The children had lots of creativity. Here are some cute examples of what the Doofenshmirtz’s robots can look like:

You can go as simple or as complicated as you wish. It doesn’t matter! It is what our character tells them to do and how we build their imagination what really counts.  This is a great recycling project too.

Check out our new video for Dr. Funzo:

Ariella, on the other hand, wanted an “I want everything that has to do with Phineas and Ferb party”.  She is also an amazing dancer, and even got to do a Hip Hop performance at her own party.  She wanted a Perry the Platypus Piñata too!

This is a cute picture sent by her parents with the Perry-piñata and below she is dancing some Hip-Hop.  Have you ever danced/played the game squirrel on my pants?

Now, of course, we must not forget Perry!

We are currently preparing an Agent P party! It will be totally awesome. For this one, I will just give you a small hint because I bet some of the guests to this party are already reading this blog!

A HA! Gottcha!  Sorry, we just don’t want to ruin the surprise for you at Diego’s Bday.  Just a hint: we all get to be detectives! Each one chooses a letter so we will have Agent F, Agent C, Agent D and an unsuspected, unexpected and totally unaware guest will be a part of these curious investigators. Of course they will be wearing…

This beautiful Perry T-shirts!

CAKES?

Check out this cute ideas…

This first one was created by Simply Homemade Cakes

Assorted cookies and Perry the Platypus cake by cake central.

I want you to check out this wonderful idea by a very creative dad who took an episode in his own hands and built an inaction Perry, the toy who does nothing!  Here I post his own words to describe it…

Perry the Platypus Inaction Figure is a wooden toy that is modelled after Perry (Disney cartoon characters – Phineas and Ferb’s pet platypus).
In the episode
Toy to the World, Phineas and Ferb design a toy “so stupidly simple, so basically bland, so idiotically uncomplicated, that it can do absolutely anything.”
For my son’s 6th birthday party we all made Inaction Figures, it was a lot of fun!!

To check out his step by step guide to make your own Perry Inaction Figure, go to…http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Build-a-Perry-the-Platypus-Inaction-Figure/

Who doesn’t love this amazing characters capable of doing anything and willing to do everything to have fun. To be honest,  I can totally understand them, and fully relate to them!

Quinceañera photography Tips

June 21, 2010

I had to interview Pako and his wife, Janeth who have been taking beautiful wedding and quinceañera pictures and Video for many years, for this article, following are must read tips to consider for your sweet Sixteen or Quinceañera pictures.

I always tell parents, don’t cut out on the professional photographer please, and if necessary I do go “pleeeeeeeeaaaase!” It is really important to have great memories for this day.

We even had a Quinceañera party once that the theme went around the photograph session of her and her friends. We made them feel like divas with a whole Spa treatment!

Please read through our Best Tips:

  • Make sure you hire a professional photographer, and that you have empathy with him. This means you like their ideas and you get along with him or her. Your attitude toward the photographer will show up in the photos. Don’t automatically go for the cheapest photographer. Pick the photographer whose photos most impress you and who you can afford.
  • Discuss beforehand the type of pictures you want, Pako for example specializes in making a story book. From the moment you go to the salon up to the highlights of your party…

  • Before you commit to a photographer, look at his/her work. Is he creative enough? Do you like the final product?

  • Get your hair and makeup done by a professional.
  • Make a list of all the people you want photographed: family, friends, etc., and designate a family member to point these people out to the photographer.
  • Work out a timeline, from when you plan to arrive at the church to when you plan to end the reception, so that the quince runs on a schedule. If the ceremony gets off to a late start, pictures will often get skipped, and opportunities for good shots will be missed.

  • ENJOY!  Remember these images are the ones you most want to preserve during your quinceañera and show off to friends and family. Grasp every moment, this is a time to be relaxed and not stressed, be playful, strike a posse and have lots of fun!

Ideas para fiestas temáticas de piratas

June 16, 2010

Pues entonces lea a continuación.
